We sat down with the lovely Alison Kidd to talk about the basics and finer points of style.
Name: Alison Kidd
From: Newtown, PA
Do you think style is important?
Yeah, I do because I think clothing makes you present yourself in a certain way and your style reflects your personality.
If you could describe your style in one phrase or sentence what would it be?
Something tight and something baggy.
What do you think is the most important aspect to pay attention to in your style?
Shoes.
What’s your favorite era of style?
The 1920s, I think it’s just beautiful.
Where do you get the inspiration for your style?
I really like basics, and then kind of playing off those basics. I like the idea of plain and natural, and building up on that. Like, playing off the idea of simplicity with minor complex details.
Where do you find the clothes you buy?
I wear a lot of cheap yoga pants. So Target, or athletic stores. And Karma in Red Hook. Plug! Maybe I’ll get a job.
Any particular direction you find yourself moving in with your style?
Yeah, I want to start dressing a little more classy. And start figuring out what things work well together, I’ve never been great at that.
What kind of stuff do you hate to see people wear?
I really dislike tights with shorts. It’s disgusting. I don’t know, I think I’m pretty tolerant because I wear some pretty ugly stuff. But I’m also a fan of the big sweater. And asymmetrical things in general.
What kind of stuff do you wish you had when you see people wear it?
Dresses. I don’t have a lot and I wish I had more. I think I’d look good in dresses. I also really like tailored things, just like form fitting without being slutty.
What’s your next big acquisition for your closet?
I really want a really comfortable, warm, yet fashionable winter jacket. I feel like all the winter jackets I have like, the stylish ones are not as warm and the really warm ones are just like sacks.
Any other thoughts?
I wish people took more risks.
